MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (WZMQ) – Northern Michigan University is heading back to Mackinac Island later this weekend.
For the second year the NMU volleyball team will take on Central Michigan University in the Mackinac Public School Gymnasium. The tradition was originally planned to be handed off to 2 completely separate schools. After the success of last year’s event both NMU and CMU coaches decided that they would keep the game between their programs.
This year Northern is expanding its presence on the island bringing along the college’s women soccer program to face off against Northwood University. Both the volleyball and women’s soccer games are exhibition pre-season matches.
“This is an opportunity for our time to kind of detach from the world, and get out there and have some opportunities to grow together and learn about each other and ultimately culminate with a match against Central Michigan,” remarked head volleyball coach Mike Lozier.
Northern is also bringing students from the theater and dance program to provide entertainment throughout the week. For a full schedule of events and information on how to join the Wildcats on the Island visit here.
