MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Over 600 runners are already registered for this weekends Queen City Half Marathon and Breakwater 5K. The Queen City Running Company is getting ready for a busy Saturday with the races kicking off at 8 am.
On Friday, the running company will be hosting packet pick up for runners at their store on West Baraga Avenue during The Blueberry Festival, with some extra deals on running gear.
This year’s race is raising money for JJ Packs, a Marquette non profit that provides food packs to kids in need over the summer, and on weekends durring the school year.
With two half marathon events under its belt, Paige Du Bois, General Manager at Queen City, said they’re hoping to welcome 700 runners to this years race.
“Now that we’re on our third year, things are starting to move a lot more smoothly.” Du Bois said. “Everyone knows their job, our volunteers have been around with us for three years now, so everyone just knows their roles and things are just rockin’ and rollin’ and we’re ready to see the growth that this race can have.”
Online and in person registration is still available, with limited spots in the half marathon. The registration fee is $70 for the half marathon with an in person registration discount, that price is also set to increase on the 27th. Registration for the Breakwater 5K is $40, or $20 for runners under 18.
