Marquette art gallery offers dog paintings to benefit UPAWS

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Pet owners around the Marquette area have the chance to create some unique memories with their pet and support UPAWS this month.

The winter green hill gallery is offering dog paintings for the entire month of may for just twenty dollars. Pet owners can bring their dog into the gallery where staff will set them up with a canvas and paint in a plastic bag.

Peanut butter is then applied to the bag and the dogs ‘paints’ the picture by licking the bag.

“It’s something to remember your dog by,” remarked the gallery’s owner Laura Songer. She added that each dog has its own personality which can be seen through the art work.

The gallery is also offering to paint portraits of dogs throughout the month. Some of those who have had their pets participate say the painting makes a perfect gift.

“Mothers day is coming and [my dog] gets to do a painting for her mother,” said dog owner Eric Hammerstrom.

A portion of the proceeds from dog paintings and portraits this month will go to UPAWS.
