ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Tuesday afternoon, Delta County organizations came together to make Easter special for veterans.
The Community Foundation for Delta County hosted its annual Easter Food Basket Distribution in Escanaba. More than 100 veterans were given to local veterans.
Aldi provided potatoes, fruits and vegetables, buns, gravy, and other items to fill the baskets. Each veteran also received a ham from Feeding America, as well as a chocolate egg from Sayklly’s Confectionery & Gifts.
“The board of trustees of the Community Foundation for Delta County, as well as the staff, really appreciate our veterans,” said Cheryl Andzejewski, executive director of the Community Foundation for Delta County. “It’s our way that we can give a little bit back and say thank you. It’s just one of those things that makes us do our part.”
Andzejewski says the foundation has hosted the Easter Food Basket Distribution annually for more than a decade. The foundation also works with the Escanaba Vet Center to hold other events for veterans throughout the year.
