ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Wednesday, May 20, a group of U.P. veterans will visit Washington, D.C. on the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight.
U.P. Honor Flight Mission XXVIII will take 77 veterans—including two women—to the nation’s capital. 75 served during the Vietnam War, while two served in the Korean War. During their trip, they will see monuments built in their honor, like the Vietnam Memorial Wall, the Marine Corps Memorial, and the Air Force Memorial.
Ahead of their journey, the veterans gathered at the Delta County Chamber of Commerce Tuesday evening. They toured the U.P. Military Museum, met one another, and enjoyed a banquet.
“I want to thank you for the freedoms that we all enjoy because of the way you gave of your time, your efforts,” U.P. Honor Flight President Scott Kauf told the group. “Thank you so much.”
