NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On March 4th, the Upper Peninsula Luge club held its North American Pacific Luge Competition at Negaunee’s Lucy Hill.
Negaunee is home to the only natural luge track in North America and this year’s competition hosted athletes from the U.S., Canada, and even Japan.
“It went very well, I’m happy, a lot of planning went into it from a lot of people, and it’s kind of emotional to watch the kids come down after coaching them all these years,” said Coach Keith Whitman.
Athletes who came to Lucy hill after finishing other luge competitions in Europe commented the local hill is just as fast.
“This track is top notch and it’s a privilege to have such a great track here in the U.S. compared to I’ve been to tons of different tracks in Europe and this is definitely one of my favorites so it’s great to have a nice facility here,” commented Competitor Henry Anderson.
