WAKEFIELD, Mich (WZMQ) – On January 29, at approximately 1:30 am Michigan State Police, CST, and Deputies from Gogebic County responded to a snowmobile crash on Trail #2 in Wakefield Township.
A group of snowmobilers was traveling westbound on Trail #2 near Ramsay when the crash happened. A 53-year-old male was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver was from Berlin, Wisconsin.
A 54-year-old male driving a second snowmobile was airlifted to Asprus Grandview Hospital. The victim was treated for a broken leg and is currently in stable condition. Law enforcement believes alcohol was a factor in this crash. The names of both victims are being withheld at this time and the investigation continues.
The Michigan DNR, Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, Beacon Ambulance, Michigan State Police Chaplin Corps, and the Gogebic County Victim Services Unit assisted on the scene.
