Negaunee, Mich (WZMQ) – During this time of year, roads are becoming slicker and drivers need to be conscious of the road conditions ahead. “This is just an unfortunate what’s happened here recently up in our area very sad for the community for the families involved in this”, said Lt. Giannunzio around the accident that occurred early Friday morning.
According to public records of Michigan’s traffic crashes, over 7 percent of last year’s car crashes took place in November. As the snow starts falling in and the roads become inevitably slicker, drivers need to keep in mind to take precautions while maneuvering in the winter.
Over the last week, some fatal car crashes open our minds to the importance of taking driving safety seriously. Even just a month ago, we experienced a short trailer of what our winters will bring, and driving in these conditions is never an easy task.
Driver safety is especially important in the upper peninsula and right around this time of year when we are expecting snow and slippery conditions to enter the road. Being aware of any situation while behind the wheel is so important for your safety and the safety of others on the road. “The deer are moving more the weather’s changing. A lot of times in the morning we might be seeing some ice conditions that we haven’t seen in several months”
“I’ve seen multiple crashes, especially this summer I wanna say there was probably 1 every week for like about 3-4 weeks”, Amber Croschere at Iron Town Pasties goes on to say that even throughout the warm months, she saw accidents. As we enter the snowy months, and the winter blanket sets, the icy conditions can be a magnet for these crashes.
