NICE Community Schools in Ishpeming were closed Wednesday after a student suicide on the campus of Aspen Ridge School on Tuesday.
A male student was found in a bathroom at the school at 12:30 p.m. with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Michigan State Police.
A Michigan state trooper was giving a presentation at the school when the incident occurred and immediately responded.
The student received first aid at the scene and was taken to U.P. Health Systems in Marquette where he died from his injuries.
Aspen Ridge School was placed on lockdown to investigate, but the lockdown was lifted after the school and law enforcement determined it was isolated incident with no threat to other students or the public.
