HARRIS, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new pop culture convention is coming to the Upper Peninsula this fall.
October 23 and 24, The Island Resort & Casino will host REZ-CON at its convention center. The event will feature a cosplay contest, more than 40 vendors, trivia, Magic: The Gathering tournaments, and video game tournaments for Fortnite, Super Smash Bros., and Guilty Gear Strive.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet the following special guests:
- Linnea Quigley, one of the world’s most famous “scream queens,” known for films like Return of the Living Dead.
- Michael Berryman, an actor best known for his roles in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Hills Have Eyes, and Weird Science.
- Michael Guinn, an actor, musician, and writer known for roles in video games like Silent Hill and Castlevania.
- Thessaly Lerner, a voiceover artist who has appeared in The Sims franchise, Silent Hill 1 and 3, and Cel Damage.
- Michelle Ruff, a voiceover artist famous for projects like Bleach, Lupin the 3rd, Sailor Moon, and Resident Evil: Revelations.
“This whole convention center will be abuzz with pop culture stuff,” said Island Entertainment Manager Vicki Griggs. “It’s the very first time I’ve ever planned an event this large. There’s a lot of gears going into this event. We’re hoping that it’s going to be successful and that we can possibly do this as a yearly event. It’s going to be a whole con experience at The Island Resort & Casino.”
Thanks to Fire Station Cannabis Co., REZ-CON will be distributing more than $3,000 in door prizes. On Friday, the first 500 guests to register at the REZ-CON/Fire Station table will have a chance to win a PlayStation 5: Fortnite Edition. On Saturday, the first 500 guests to register will have a chance to win a Nintendo Switch 2: Super Smash Bros. Edition. Other prizes include Pokémon packs, toys and figurines, games, and vendor coupons.
Attendees who want to stay at The Island Resort & Casino for the weekend are encouraged to act quickly.
“We have rooms that we’re holding for REZ-CON attendees so that it doesn’t get booked out, but you do have to call in advance to get it,” Griggs said. “There are limited amounts, so don’t wait.”
