GARDEN, Mich. (WZMQ) – At the end of July, the Garden Peninsula’s only bank closed its doors, leaving customers to travel roughly 40 miles for in-person services. Now, other banks are moving to the area to serve the community.
Limestone Financial Credit Union (FCU) has purchased a property on State Street. The Manistique-based credit union is currently remodeling the building into a permanent branch. Once the permanent branch opens, members will have access to an ATM, personalized in-person support, financial education programs at Big Bay de Noc School, and community-focused initiatives.
While construction is underway, Limestone FCU will operate out of a temporary location down the road at Garden Grove Retreat and Lodging. Tuesdays and Thursdays in October and November, customers will be able to open accounts, apply for loans, cash checks, and engage in small cash transactions at the temporary site. The temporary location will not offer instant debit card printing, money orders, or cashier’s check services.

The Garden branch will be led by Allie LaLonde, Branch Manager and Training and Development Lead. LaLonde brings several years of experience in the credit union industry and a strong commitment to member service.

The news of Limestone FCU’s new branch comes roughly two months after State Savings Bank announced that it would also be opening a Garden branch along the highway. State Savings plans to open before the end of the year, and Limestone FCU will provide information on its grand opening in the near future.
