Ishpeming township held a special meeting on August 18, focused on several items on the agenda.
The board focused on approving a master plan for the township from 2027 to 2031, approvement of a new subdivision, and grant funding for housing.
The master plan was passed unanimously among the board, laying out a 5 year plan for the township. The plan also looks to improve community parks and projects, all part of a plan to bring more residents and citizens to Ishpeming.
“By having more people, utility bills should go down a little bit,” said Ishpeming Township Supervisor Jim Nankervis. “With inflation, they’re going to be going up. So hopefully, we can try to hold them steady. This will help the school system by having more kids in the school, and just having more people in the community.”
The board voted to withdraw the grant application due to paperwork, and will revisit the issue in the future.
