ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Escanaba officials are preparing to bring in candidates vying for the open City manager position.
Escanaba has been operating with an interim manager—City Controller Melissa Becotte—since mid-May. Meanwhile, the City Council has been searching for someone to take the job permanently.
On Tuesday, the Council narrowed down its pool of candidates from fifteen to three. The goal is to begin interviewing those top three candidates on Monday, July 13.
As the Council continues to make progress on the manager search, one member says he feels confident about the direction the City is heading.
“I think, with the majority of Council, we’re in a right position to look at these three candidates and start that process,” said Council Member and Mayor Pro Tem Tyler DuBord. “I am very positive moving forward with this process. I think this is where we need to be at this point, and we look forward to having those interviews with those three candidates if everything works out.”
Each of the chosen candidates has prior experience as a city or village manager in the state of Michigan.
