MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – During this year’s milestone of independence, the largest Marquette Freedom Festival in 44 years has made it way down to Lower Harbor Park.
“It’s 250 years, so we had to do it up big,” said Marquette County Exchange Club President and Co-Chairman, Geno Angeli.
The three day schedule features a lineup of close to 20 live music performances, eating contests, bounce houses, and over a dozen food and craft vendors. The Marquette County Exchange Club and Double Trouble Entertainment have worked to combine a total of 27 hours of activity through Saturday.
“This year, we brought in seven more bands, added more eating contests, and bigger bounce houses,” said Double Trouble Entertainment Co-Founder, Bill Digneit. “We’re just making sure we’re growing Freedom Fest. It’s a landmark event for the community, and we want to make sure we keep doing that.”
While the area as been experiencing the hottest week of the summer so far, before coming out to the festival be sure to keep an eye on the local forecast.
“After 44 years, we’ve figured out there’s nothing we can do about the weather,” laughed Angeli. “But, it looks like it’s going to be great.”
The festival will continue Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. each day. A large amount of the festival earnings will go towards local charities. For a full schedule, visit marquettefourth.com.
