MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Ahead of a Marquette town hall Wednesday evening, 1st Congressional District Candidate Callie Barr has announced an endorsement from a former U.S. Representative.
Barr is currently traveling to 14 town halls across northern Michigan this summer after receiving several endorsements, varying from local governments to trade unions. Her most recent came from Former 1st Congressional District Representative, Bart Stupak, who served from 1993 until 2011. Barr says the endorsement comes from their common goal of meeting people where they’re at.
“When we look back to that era of someone who came home every weekend, even when he was working in Washington, he made sure to meet with people and advocate for the issues that are unique to the people of the Upper Peninsula and northern Michigan,” she said. “And he knows that’s exactly what I’m all about.”
Barr is one of three candidates running in the Democratic primary for U.S. House Michigan District 1 on August 4, 2026. Incumbent Jack Bergman and two other candidates are running in the Republican primary in the same election.
Barr will hold a townhall at Northern Michigan University’s Northern Center on Wednesday, June 24 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
