NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – On Monday, June 15, the Negaunee Township Fire/Search & Rescue Department will conduct a training exercise on the Iron Ore Heritage Trail from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
According to the Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority, the training will take place along the trail segment between the County Road 492/M-35 intersection and the Kalkaska Drive entrance to the Smith Construction quarry. The exercise will simulate the rescue and extraction of an injured trail user from a remote section of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail. As part of the department’s annual training program, the exercise is designed to provide responders with hands-on experience in trail-based emergency operations.
Residents and trail users may observe emergency personnel, vehicles, and rescue equipment in the area during the training. While the exercise will resemble a live emergency response, it will be conducted under controlled conditions and is strictly for training purposes.
