MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Saint Ignace man has been arrested for possession of child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime.
19-year-old Jaxon Massaway’s arrest came after an investigation initiated by the The Michigan State Police (MSP) Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Officials had learned that Massaway was receiving child sexually abusive material online, and police seized digital evidence during a search of his home.
Massaway was charged with three counts of possession of aggravated child sexually abusive material and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime. He was arraigned on May 26. If convicted, Massaway faces up to ten years in prison for each count of possession of child sexually abusive material and up to ten years for using a computer to commit a crime.
The MSP Computer Crimes Unit encourages parents to speak to their children and family members about safe use of the internet. There are many resources available to assist in keeping people safe online. The Michigan ICAC Task Force provides a comprehensive list of resources at michigan.gov/icac.
