MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – It was a perfect afternoon to get outside, and dozens of families did just that.
The Eighth annual Sharing Nature with Children event brought a plethora of families together, hosted by Marquette-Alger RESA.
Kids planted seeds, fished, read campfire stories, and enjoyed a free hot dog, while parents got the chance to connect with each other and community resources.
Organizers say that in an age where technology dominates and parenting can feel isolating, getting outside together matters more than ever.
“More and more in our culture there’s isolation and disconnection, and we’re hearing that from parents,” says Angela Miller-Porter, the Great Start Collaborative Director for Marquette Alger-RESA. “That parenting can be isolating. So this event is an opportunity to come together and have fun, as well as to bring the community together outside and to reconnect with nature.”
A free afternoon outside, and for many families, exactly what they needed.
