ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – One of America’s most recognizable vehicles is set to join an Escanaba car show this month.
Formerly the Krusin’ Klassics Fun Run, the Ludington Street Cruise will take over the downtown on May 29 with a classic car parade. This year, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will make a special appearance, presented by Elmer’s County Market.
Shaped like a hot dog on a bun, the vehicle is driven by trained Hotdoggers who promote the Oscar Mayer brand, hold “meat-and-greets,” and hand out Wiener Whistles. Elmer’s County Market General Manager Kurt Strassler says because the Wienermobile is so iconic, it will fit right in with the other classic cars parade-goers can expect to see.
“They’ve tried for years to bring it to past car shows, so we’re excited to finally make it happen,” said Strassler, who also serves on the Ludington Street Cruise committee. “Along with the Wienermobile, we’ll have the Smokey and the Bandit tribute group, which adds a fun, interactive element for kids and families.”
The Wienermobile will be parked at Elmer’s before the parade. It will also appear at the Ludington Street Cruise car show on May 30.
The Ludington Street Cruise committee is focused on creating a fun, family-friendly event. Attendees will be able to vote for their favorite vehicles via cell phone, with entries spanning categories like pre-1960 classics, modern cars, motorcycles, off-road vehicles, and imports.
