MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – 38th State Senate District Candidate Chris Mapps (D) made his way to Marquette on Friday.
The Kingsford native holds a focus on the working class and veteran population of the Upper Peninsula, with experience serving as a local president and national representative of the American Federation of Government Employees union. More information on his campaign can be found here.
Mapps held a Conversations and Coffee event at Provisions Friday afternoon to further discuss his goals for the region.
“It’s about needs of the working class, and not about political agendas or appeasing federal administrations,” he said. “It’s also about finding ways to solve the problems of affordability, making sure we can secure funding and resources for the U.P. that sometimes we don’t get.”
Mapps is among three other candidates for the 38th District seat, including Kelli van Ginhoven (D), Beau LaFave (R), and Dave Prestin (R).
