MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – As a reminder, the Marquette Winter Parking Ban begins Saturday.
From November 1 through April 1, parking along any city street or alleyway from 1:00 a.m. through 6:00 a.m. will result in a parking ticket. This is to allow for proper plowing, to create safer travel through the entirety of the winter season.
Marquette City Police say warnings will likely be issued prior to the snowfall, but once plowing is needed, tickets will cost upwards of $75.
“The reason tickets are this high is because we really need the streets as clear as possible for public works to do their jobs efficiently and safely,” said Captain James Finkbeiner. “There are some really large trucks moving, and the less obstacles they have to worry about, the better.”
The city also says parking in downtown Marquette from November 14 through December 25 will be free past 3:00 p.m., hoping to lighten the holiday shopping season.
Ishpeming and Negaunee parking bans will also be in effect starting November 1.
