MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette Senior Center celebrated its 60th anniversary on Friday.
Through the afternoon in the Marquette Commons, a party was held to honor the decades of dedication towards local seniors. The event included free food, resource tables, presentations and an address from Mayor Jessica Hanley, live music, and dance lessons for anyone in attendance.
Organizers say the celebration gained a great amount of traction and support, highlighting the importance of the senior community.
“We had almost 100 people show up today, everybody was having fun, getting to know each other,” said Maureen McFadden, manger of Senior Services in Marquette. “We encourage people to call us at our senior center, continue to get to know what we do, and be a part of that friendship and fellowship.”
The celebration also recognizes the 60th anniversary of the Older Adult Americans Act, providing federal funding for senior services in local communities. To support the Marquette Senior center, visit marquettemi.gov.
