MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The pathway to one of Presque Isle’s most popular sites is now safer and more accessible thanks to a recent update.
Presque Isle Park, or “the island,” has new stairs leading out to the break wall. Members of the Marquette community, particularly Margaret Brumm, came together to make this project a success.
Brumm and her colleagues have been working on bringing this project to life and getting action for two and a half years. Six weeks ago, Brumm, Karen Kovacs, and others walked around Presque Isle Park to show the city manager of Marquette the extent of the damage to the stairs.
“This is one of the parts of the world that is so beautiful people wanna come here whether they walk here bike here or come by vehicle they wanna come here because you have the lake you have the ore dock and out on the break water when you get out there you have another magnificent view,” said Margaret Brumm, Citizen of Marquette.
This project is close to home for Brumm for multiple reasons. Not only is her nephew’s memorial bench right in front of the stairs, but before her mother’s passing in 2024, one of her last big accomplishments was being able to walk out onto the break wall even though she was moderately handicapped.
