LANSING, Mich. (WZMQ) -Michigan lawmakers are reacting to a recent memorandum from President Trump directing resources to preventing the spread of invasive carp. On Friday, Trump released a statement committing his administration to protecting the Great Lakes. The Brandon Road Interbasin Project would implement several barriers to deter the invasive fish from moving upstream, but continuing the project would rely on federal support and cooperation from 8 different states. House Republican Representative Parker Fairbairn (R-Harbor Springs) is celebrating the administration’s actions and Governor Whitmer’s work to bring attention to the issue.
“If we were to have asian carp come into the Great Lakes, they’d get into all of our rivers, our inland lakes, it’d be really bad,” Fairbairn said. “That buy-in from the feds to support us in our effort to keep them out of the Great Lakes is really important.”
