ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – A special Ishpeming City Hall meeting was held on Thursday morning, to address additional funding recently offered by the state of Michigan. The meeting was to vote on what this funding will go towards, centered around Ishpeming’s police and fire department.
The board met with Michigan State Representative Karl Bohnak’s legislative director, to address their questions about the offer.
The city has decided to request two separate funds. One for renovations to the department’s tower, and the other for a new fire truck. Together, the request will be around 1.5 million dollars.
“The current firetruck is in repair, that is something that the city could utilize,” said Ishpeming City Manager, Randy Scholz. “And the tower is historical.”
Scholz was tasked with sending in those final decisions by Thursday evening, a main reason for the special meeting.
