MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Over the next few weeks, the winter tourism season will be coming to a close. With this winter making up for the lack of snow last year, Marquette County had its fair share of tourists in the last few months.
With returning events like the UP200, Negaunee’s Heikki Lunta Winter Festival, and the Suicide Hill Ski Jump in Ishpeming, hundreds of visitors came to explore the area this winter. The CEO of Travel Marquette Susan Estler says that this year’s opportunities were much broader than others.
“Definitely, this year was a better year, a more well-rounded year,” said Estler. “Every day is different it seems like, certainly March came in like a lion and went out like a lion.”
With the heavy amounts of snow melting soon, this spring is projected to be a much slower season.
