ALGER COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – An Alger County man out on bond from drug charges was again arrested Friday afternoon on multiple warrants for a bond violation.
Craig Michael Smith was previously charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. Several warrants for his arrest were issued from both the 93rd District Court and the 11th Circuit Court in Limestone Township for failure to comply with bond conditions in early December.
The morning of Jan. 17, Alger County Sheriff’s deputies received information that would possibly lead to Smith’s location. An investigation led them to a residents in the Limestone area. Upon arrival, police learned Smith may have been warned of the officers and fled into a wooded area adjacent to the residence. Alger County K9 Alger was able to track Smith for nearly 1.5 miles and assisted officers with Smith’s apprehension. During the investigation of the search, evidence was found that may lead to additional charges.
The investigation is ongoing. The Alger County Sheriff’s Office and K9 were assisted by Michigan State Police and the U.S. Forest Service.
