MENOMINEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two teens are under arrest after a string of vehicle thefts and a police chase in Menominee County.
Around 9:09 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, local law enforcement agencies were notified that a stolen vehicle, involved in a gas drive-off in Marinette, Wisc., was located in the City of Menominee. Officers were informed that the suspects had been involved in numerous vehicle thefts spanning multiple counties in Wisconsin.
Menominee Police Department officers attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop, beginning a high-speed pursuit through Menominee. The suspect vehicle eventually stopped at a residence near US-41 and Elmwood Road No. 4 in Menominee Township, where the two male suspects fled into the woods with a firearm.
K-9 teams and drone teams from multiple agencies were utilized to locate the suspects, who had separated when fleeing into the woods. An unarmed 15-year-old boy was quickly apprehended. The second suspect, also a teen boy, was found by a drone and pursued through the woods and an open field. He was eventually found with self-inflicted injuries and transported to Aurora Bay Area Medical Center.
Police say there is no danger to the public at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
