LANSING, Mich. (WZMQ) – After a chaotic last week, Michigan’s legislature has wrapped up work for the year. It was also state representative Jenn Hill’s last week serving her term in Lansing.
Hill won the seat back in 2022 after her Democrat incumbent, Sarah Cambensey, was term-limited.
After winning the 2022 election, she was able to work on clean energy legislation, tax laws, and expand the state’s Civil Rights Act.
“I am really excited to be home I want to thank my husband for blessing this back-and-forth lifestyle that I’ve lived for the last two years it’s very grueling but it has really been an honor, absolutely an honor,” Hill said. “I just want to thank the voters for letting me have this opportunity to serve in 23 and 24. The staff who get the word out about the work that we’re doing. The staff who make sure that we’re doing it in a legal and proper way, the clerk, the Legislative Service Bureau, the attorneys are making sure that the actually arm upholding the constitution of michigan, as we have sworn to uphold.”
Her last week in the legislature was limited, with House Republicans and one Democrat absent, they were unable to vote on any legislation.
Still, Hill said both chambers were able to pass legislation that will put state corrections officers on a pension system. Another bill will allow state employees to list special needs individuals as beneficiaries on their retirement trusts. She said she’s thankful for all the staff that helped her work on health care, prescription access, and workers right’s bills.
Hill formerly worked as a city commissioner in Marquette, she said she plans to continue her work as a public servant and fight for the people of the U.P.
Representative Hill continues to hold her seat until January 1st, Rep-Elect Karl Bohnak will take over the seat when the newly elected legislature takes over.
