MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – WZMQ-19 news has learned that a sitting member of the Negaunee City Council has been arraigned on charges of controlled substance possession (non-narcotic), a felony; and operating a marine vessel while under the influence of liquor, a misdemeanor.
All charges stem from a boating accident in Marquette Harbor on September 13, 2024, in which Negaunee City Council member Matthew A. Howard was arrested by the Marquette City Police.
Howard’s next court appearance will be on October 17th for a probable cause conference. Currently, WZMQ 19 News has reached out to Howard’s attorney, and we are waiting for A callback.
Howard has previously been accused of harassing other members of the Negaunee City Council as well as the City Manager. The Negaunee City Council officially censured Howard in August over these allegations. Stay tuned to WZMQ 19 news for further developments as they become available.
