NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The City of Negaunee approved its 2025 budget as well as its economic development plan at Thursday night’s city council meeting.
The City of Negaunee is going through a renaissance of sorts. The beautification of downtown, the addition of new businesses, improvements to city parks, and large-scale infrastructure improvements are all signs of a healthy, growing city. Negaunee City Manager Nate Heffron says the passing of the budget will allow the city grow further.
“Tonight, we passed a budget, and we have a robust year for next year, which includes the normal operations of government with some projects, which includes some sewer, sewer projects and some street projects, and a few others based in between,” said Heffron.
Negaunee also approved their new economic development plan, called “Forge Your Adventure” which is a continuation of the successful strategy that transformed downtown.
“You can forge your adventure if you’re just here visiting us in the Negaunee or as a tourist, said Heffron. “You can forge your adventure if you’re going to start your business or expand your business in the Negaunee, or you might move here and forge your adventure in that way.”
The outgoing Mayor of Negaunee, Dave Kangas points to the business-friendly track record of the city as one reason for the prosperity
“22 new businesses have come into town, John in the last three, or four years. That’s a big deal,” said Kangas.
With next year’s budget passed and the next phase of the economic development plan in place, Negaunee hopes to become even more attractive to new residents and new businesses in the future.
