Trump talks with steelworkers in southern Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Earlier today, former President Trump made his second stop in Michigan this week to speak with steelworkers at Alro in Potterville.

As candidates continue to focus on winning over battleground states, Trump talked about economics, inflation, and manufacturing at Alro.

The Trump team will end the day in northern Wisconsin to continue campaigning. Both stops continue a trend, Trump has been focused on recapturing those swing states he won back in 2016, but lost in 2020.

“I’m here today with a simple message for the American auto worker and for the American worker,” Trump started. “Your long economic nightmare will very soon be over.”

In a new announcement, Trump said if elected he’d like to focus on ensuring IVF treatments are covered entirely by insurance and allow parents to deduct major newborn expenses from their taxes. He talked about this as a part of his focus on families and lowering costs. Trump had a particular focus on energy, he said he has a goal to cut energy costs in half within 12 months of taking office.

He also touched on some regular talking points. Discussing abortion, he said he supports exceptions for abortions like the health of the mother, rape, and incest. He emphasized the importance of securing the southern border, also citing immigration as a cause for inflation. He said the Biden-Harris administration’s push towards green energy has also played a part in rising costs, and that it’s one of the first things he’ll undo if elected.

Yesterday in response to Trump’s visit, Governor Gretchen Whitmer was joined by state democrats in speaking out against the Project 2025 agenda and showing support for the Harris-Walz campaign.

Whitmer said that while Trump was in office he exported manufacturing jobs overseas and that his plan would supercharge inflation and raise taxes for michigan families by $3,900.

“Don Trump doesn’t get it,” Whitmer said. “His project 2025 agenda would make life more expensive, and give him unchecked access to whatever he wants at the expense of everyday Americans.”

Trump wrapped up his remarks by talking about his goals to keep costs down and manufacturing jobs based here in America. The campaign will now move on to Pennsylvania tomorrow.
