MUNISING, Mich. – Beginning Monday, June 10, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore’s Au Sable Light Station tours will be free of charge and offered seven days a week for the summer of 2024.
Following public comment in December regarding the Au Sable Light Station tour fee, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore decided to waive fees associated with tours at the light station this summer.
Tours at the light station will now be offered 7 days a week, as opposed to 5 days a week in previous years. Tours will be offered at 11 am, 12 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm.
Light station tours are 40 minutes to an hour long. Tours consist of a guided walk around the grounds and support buildings, followed by a climb up the lighthouse tower to learn about the tower’s original Fresnel lens and experience the view from the top of the lighthouse.
The Au Sable Light Station is located 12 miles west of Grand Marais on County Road H-58. To reach the light station, park in the Hurricane River Lower Loop day use area and take the trail 1.5 miles east. Biting flies are often fierce in this area, visitors may wish to wear long pants and a bug net.
