IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Iron Mountain Police Department has begun to investigate a scam targeting local restaurants.
Calls are being placed to the restaurant by an individual claiming to be the CEO. The unknown person places a call to the restaurant and provides information only someone who has worked there would have knowledge of.
During the call this scammer asks the employee on the phone to take money out of the safe, go to a business that sells pre-paid credit cards and buy one. After the pre-paid card is purchased the employees are then told to reveal the card information by sending the caller a picture of the front and back of the card.
This scam is still being investigated, so Iron Mountain Police encourage businesses to inform their employees of this problem and report any suspicious activity.
