HOUGHTON, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new building on Michigan Tech’s campus is its first academic building solely focused on highlighting the research. The H-STEM building that is still under construction is designed with a “Science on Display” vision, creating a space where the research and technology are able to be viewed from the outside, just walking along campus.
Researchers will be able to work together in a shared and flexible space to advance new technologies. Leaders say although MTU is a technological university, the applied research sciences that is done on campus have sometimes been overshadowed and the centralized building will attract more students and innovators.
“Not only can the students see what’s going on but they can kind of get more involved cause they see it. The other really exciting part from a faculty point of view is to have a place where research is being done from a subject basis,” commented Director of MTU’s Health Research Insitute Caryn Heldt.
Faculty noted that being spread out on campus makes it difficult to push more collaboration with the project that is planned to be completed and the building will occupy some time in early next year.
