Dickinson County Residents Rally to Declare the County a “Second Amendment Sanctuary”

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – In a packed and fervent gathering, a group from Dickinson County took their passionate plea to the Commission, requesting that the county be declared a “Second Amendment Sanctuary.” The Dickinson County Republican Committee presented their case before the Board, seeking the commissioners’ unwavering support for the Second Amendment.

One of the Republican committee presenters began, “What does it mean to be a Second Amendment sanctuary county? A jurisdiction has adopted a resolution declaring gun control laws passed by a higher legislative body, such as a federal government or a state legislature, violate the constitution and won’t be enforced in that jurisdiction,” and continued on to quote the Second Amendment of the U.S. constitution.

Another presenter informed the board and attendees, “The State of Michigan for maybe some who aren’t as up on this as I am, has a democrat-led legislature at this point in time, and they are pushing through radical laws,” she stated, expressing her opinion about the safe storage act. “So as I was reading through it, it sounds fantastic. Of course, we want people safe, we don’t want guns in the hands of minors. I have four young children at home. This law prohibits me from having a gun accessible to protect my family,” she remarked, giving an example of when her husband goes out of town, and she retrieves her handgun to have it nearby in case of emergency in his absence.

The meeting room was teeming with concerned citizens; it was standing room only as attendees eagerly awaited the outcome. Amidst the crowd, one staunch advocate for gun rights defiantly refused to remove his hat, even after a board member’s request. However, he made sure to convey his sentiments to the commissioners.

“When you all took oath of this office, you raised your hand and said you were going to swear to uphold the constitution of the United States. At this point, we are moving into receipt, to remove any career politician who decides that they do not want to uphold the constitution of the United States, does not back the Second Amendment,” the impassioned resident declared. Another resident commented, saying that she agreed with the Republican Committee’s motion to make Dickinson County a Second Amendment sanctuary county, but disagreed with the committee’s proposition to defund any organization that won’t back the policy. “It is not up on the sheriff’s duties to enforce partisan bias,” she commented.

A resident from north Dickinson county announced, “ladies and gentlemen, we are at the pivotal point in our country, and on the edge of civil war. Because the lunatics that want to take our firearms away are on a rampage, and those that want to keep them are on a more serious rampage. They want to hold their Second Amendment.”

Despite the impassioned pleas, the commissioners opted not to take any immediate action on the matter, as there were no resolutions regarding the issue for their consideration.
