KINGSFORD, Mich. (WZMQ) – In Dickinson County, the Flivver Hockey Team embarked on a roadside mission to secure funds for a much-needed upgrade to their ice rink. The team took advantage of the Kingsford Centennial Celebration, where they were generously sponsored by Ride North, a local offroad vehicle dealership, to direct parking for their team fundraiser throughout the weekend. The Ride North dealership is owned by a local team parent, Jordan Wolfenberg, who arranged the parking lot access for the team.
Junior left-wing, Jacob Crockford, expressed his enthusiasm for the festival while acknowledging the team’s hard work towards improving Flivver Hockey. “We just work this until around eight o’clock and then after that we can go right in, once we’re done, so it’s going to be a lot of fun tonight,” he said.
Crockford also emphasized the significance of the funds they were raising, stating, “This money’s gonna be very beneficial to us, it’s going to be great for our rink, and just what our team needs. So it’s going to be awesome.”
Another junior left-wing, Jaxon Buckley, highlighted the team’s commitment to training, which further increased the need for better equipment and upgrades. “We’ve been lifting for the past couple of weeks, and we are looking to get two-a-days going even though it’s early and not the winter season,” Buckley explained.
Assistant Coach Chris Moore confirmed that the overall goal was to raise approximately $10,000 for the much-needed upgrade. With the festival parking efforts in full swing, the team set their sights on generating at least $3,000 dollars per night.
When the team reaches their goal, they’ll be able to revitalize their outdated rink, which requires updates. “It really just needs updates, it’s very old, we haven’t updated in a while. Our bleachers are still wooden. I mean, it’s just like seats,” Crockford noted.
With the Kingsford Centennial Celebration providing a platform for their fundraising efforts, the Flivver Hockey Team remained determined to secure the necessary funds for the much-anticipated upgrade.
As the Kingsford Centennial Celebration continued, the Flivver Hockey Team tirelessly worked in shifts to ensure there were enough players available to direct parking and collect the $10 fee that would contribute to the team fund. Their dedication and hard work paid off, as the teammates proudly announced that they had already raised around $5,000.
The players took turns, rotating throughout the festival grounds, ensuring that every vehicle was parked efficiently and every fee was collected. Their commitment to their team and their ice rink project was evident as they greeted festival-goers with smiles and gratitude.
Through their collective efforts and the support of the community, the Flivver Hockey Team believed that their dream of a revitalized rink was within reach. With each passing night of the Kingsford Centennial Celebration, they inched closer to their fundraising goal, fueled by their passion for the sport and the desire to provide future generations of hockey players with a state-of-the-art facility.
The team agreed they have more players coming up the ranks this year with some more experience under their belt, making this year’s upcoming hockey season an exciting one for the fans.
