Iron Mountain, Mich. (WZMQ) – In an exciting announcement today, Fire Captain Randy Lapp of the Iron Mountain Fire Department revealed an opportunity for the city to give back during the upcoming 4th of July parade. The department will proudly showcase three of their vehicles in the parade, igniting the spirit of generosity among the community.

While many of the dedicated crew members won’t be riding along in the engine, ladder truck, or utility vehicle, they will be hitting the streets with their boots in hand, collecting donations from parade-goers. This unique approach to fundraising aims to engage the public and encourage them to contribute to a worthy cause.

During the announcement, Fire Captain Lapp shared the details of the department’s “Fill the Boot” fundraiser. He revealed, “The parade, City of Iron Mountain Fire Department will be in the parade, and walking alongside the parade route with a fire boot, and collecting donations for the sons of the American Legion.”

All the proceeds raised through this initiative will be dedicated to funding next year’s spectacular firework display. Those interested in supporting the cause can make checks payable to “SAL Fireworks Fund 2023”. Additionally, for those unable to attend the parade, but still want to contribute to the success of the fundraising efforts, checks can be mailed to:

The Iron Mountain Fire Department’s “Fill the Boot” fundraiser not only provides an opportunity for the community to contribute to a memorable Fourth of July celebration, but also showcases the dedication and selflessness of the fire department’s crew members.

The fire captain is urging citizens to enjoy the fourth of July festivities with care. He advises citizens to stay hydrated during the celebration, and to handle fireworks safely and responsibly.

“Donations are appreciated, you know it’s going to go towards the fireworks for the next year. Stay hydrated and don’t light fireworks in your house,” he added.

The 4th of July parade will take place at 9am central time, starting on Balsam Street, and will go down Carpenter Avenue. The Parade ends at the Mid-town Mall. The firefighters will be walking the streets with their boots for the entire parade!
