ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Tuesday, a downstate museum brought the wild inside Escanaba’s City Hall for an educational experience.
Friends of the Escanaba Public Library hosted a live animal experience with the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and Leslie Science and Nature Center.
Children and their parents got up close and personal with animals on several steps of the food chain, including snakes, frogs, and a tarantula.
According to Hands-On Museum and Leslie Center Education Department program manager Lannis Smith, the event exposes children to animals they may never have seen before.
“It’s also good for us to learn how we as humans can interact with animals right outside our back door,” she said. “Whether it’s in our habitats or in theirs, by understanding how food chains work, it gives us a chance to talk more about how we can better interact with the animals and other organisms we find out in the wild.”
The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum is touring the U.P. with a variety of animals throughout the week. The crew will stop at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library on Wednesday, June 28 for a snake workshop.
