ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Wednesday, June 12, the community is invited to support and celebrate the Escanaba Public Library.
From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., the Friends of the Escanaba Public Library’s used book and DVD sale will take place in the City Hall foyer, just outside the library. Books will be priced at $1 and DVDs will be available for 50 cents.
Then at 6 p.m., the Friends of the Library will host their annual ice cream social on the north lawn. Cake will also be served, and there will be a performance by the Escanaba City Band.
Proceeds from the book sale will help the Friends of the Library purchase new materials and resources for the library.
“We are involved with all of the aspects of the library,” said Friends of the Escanaba Public Library President Kelly Pepin. “We’re a nonprofit organization, so we get the funds from our membership and donations, bequeaths, it all goes back into the library to supplement funds that they don’t have in their normal operating budget.”
The ice cream social is free to attend. It will also serve as the kickoff for the Escanaba Public Library’s children’s summer reading program.
