NMU Men’s 200 Free Relay Team earns silver at NCAA Championships

LaCount, Fulconi, Khmara, Nolles touched out by Grand Valley State

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NMU men’s swim and dive team rounded out day four of the NCAA Championships with a silver medal and a handful of All-America honors.

Wyatt Dickman was the only individual to compete on the day for the men, qualifying for the consolation finals and a second team All-America honor in the 100 breaststroke. Dickman scored a time of 53.37 in his prelim before posting a 53.96 in the finals, finishing 12th overall.

The 200 freestyle relay team of William LaCount, Gabriel Fulconi, Daniel Khmara, and Leo Nolles ended the evening in the final event of the day. The team battled back thanks to a ridiculously fast anchor leg from Nolles to claim a silver medal, finishing just 0.03 seconds behind Grand Valley State and earning a first team All-America honor.

Prelims
The sole Wildcat in the prelims was Dickman, who swam in the second heat of the 100 breaststroke, finishing fifth in his heat with a time of 53.37. After the heats concluded, Dickman’s time slotted 11th, earning him a trip to the consolation finals in the evening.

Finals
Dickman opened the evening for the men in the 100 breast consolation finals in lane three. Dickman got off to a terrific start off the block and was just a second behind the leader after the split in fifth place. Dickman wound up making up one position, moving into fourth with his time of 53.96, just over a second behind first and finishing 12th overall for a second team All-America honor.

The 200 free relay team of LaCount, Fulconi, Khmara, Nolles, entered the week carrying the top time in the country (1:17.76) ahead of the two heats. The ‘Cats swam in lane four of the second and final heat, the last event of the night. The ‘Cats were fifth after the first split (LaCount, 19.78), fifth after the second split (Fulconi, 19.80), sixth heading into the final leg (Khmara, 19.79), before Nolles kicked on the jets (18.76 ) to storm back and take the silver medal with their time of 1:18.13, just 0.03 seconds behind Grand Valley State who claimed gold.

  • 10 AM: 200 Breaststroke Prelims – Dickman (10th)
  • 10 AM: Prelims for 1-Meter Diving
  • 6:10 PM: Finals for 100 Free / 200 Breast (if advanced from prelims)
  • 7:45 PM: 400 Freestyle Relay Timed Finals – LaCount, Fulconi, Khmara, Nolles (5th)
