Senior Night spoiled by Bulldogs
HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech hockey team fell 3-2 to Ferris State Saturday in the regular season home finale at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The Huskies scored the game’s first two goals before surrendering the final three. It was Senior Day as the six seniors were honored on the ice after the game.
“Our seniors deserved better tonight, but I’m proud of this class,” Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. “Many of them have worked their way up in their careers to be an important piece to the team.
“We didn’t have the push back after they tied the game, but that’s what we’ve been dealing with in a number of games this season. I feel bad for Jack Works and Trevor Russell for not being able to play tonight.”
Elias Jansson opened scoring 6:22 into the game when he buried his team-leading 11th goal of the season with a quick flip over the goaltender in front of the net after a centering feed by Nick Williams. Isaac Gordon added the second assist.
Marcus Pedersen added to the lead at 13:55 of the first when he batted the puck into the net out of the air for his fourth of the season on his Senior Night. Lauri Raiman and Trevor Kukkonen assisted on Pedersen’s 10th career goal.
The Bulldogs tied it up with a pair of goals in the second period. Tyler Schleppe scored from Gavin Best and Kade Turner 12:01 after intermission to make it a one-goal game.
Christopher Lie tied the game with a power-play goal from Kaleb Ergang and Jacob Badal with 13 seconds left in the second.
Zach Faremouth scored the go-ahead goal from Caiden Gault and Kaleb Ergang 7:30 into the third period.
Tech added the extra attacker with 2:43 left. A shot by Isaac Gordon hit the crossbar and Noah West saved four shots down the stretch to seal the win.
The Huskies led in shots 29-25. Isaac Gordon and Elias Jansson each had three shots on goal.
Tech was 0-for-2 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The regular season wraps up for the Black and Gold next weekend at St. Thomas. The Huskies are tied with Bowling Green for third-place in the CCHA standings—two points ahead of St. Thomas.
