Carbone, Strazny go 1,2 in 100 backstroke
HOLLAND, Mich. – The Wildcat women’s swim and dive team wrapped up day three of the 2025 GLIAC Championships by crowning its first GLIAC champion of the week.
The Wildcats extended its lead over Wayne State, sitting second with 558.5 points to the Warrior’s 493. Grand Valley State remained at the top with 851.5 points.
Teams competed in the 500 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, and 800 Freestyle Relay today, with NMU claiming six medals over five events.
The ‘Cats opened it’s day three by claiming four medals in the first two events, the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Anika Wright and Annika Geyer finished back-to-back in the 500 free for silver and bronze at 4:54.92 and 4:55.41, followed up by Camilla Carbone and Mia Strazny claiming gold and silver in the 100 back with times of 54.61 and 55.06.
The ‘Cats 11th medal of the week came from Kalina Ceglinski, posting a score of 429.25 in the 3-meter diving to claim a bronze medal, her giving her medals in both of her diving events this week.
The team rounded out its day with another bronze medal, this time coming from the team of Anika Wright, Carlotta Santi, Annika Geyer, and Donna Hannig in the 800 free relay. The team posted a time of 7:31.60, dropping 5.34 seconds off its entry time.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Mia Strazny, Elena Curti, Abby Keen, and Becca Burrows swam in a time trial this morning, setting a school record and collecting an NCAA provisioinal with their time of 1:33.22.

The ‘Cats now look ahead to the final day of competition, featuring the 1650 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, and 400 freestyle relay. Prelims start at 10 a.m. with the finals at 5:30 p.m., both of which can be streamed on FloSwimming.
