200 Free Relay Team Posts Fastest Time in the Nation
HOLLAND, Mich. – The NMU men’s swim and dive team had a blistering day in the pool today, capped off by posting the fastest time in the nation in the 200 free relay.
The men currently sit in second of eight teams with 166.5 points, behind only Grand Valley State with 209.5 and neck and neck with Wayne State in thid with 166. As combined team, NMU is third with 332.5 points, behind Grand Valley with 536.5 and Wayne State with 374 while holding a large edge over fourth place Davenport at 180.
The first round of events saw the 200 medley relay, 1000 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and 200 free relay. The ‘Cats posted three first-place finishes and four podiums on the evening.
The ‘Cats opened the finals with a gold medal, as the 200 medley relay team of Ian Rocheleau, Wyatt Dickman, William LaCount, and Leo Nolles posted a school record time of 1:26.52, earning an NCAA DII B cut in the process.
Fast-forward to the 50 free, Nolles and LaCount claimed two of the podium spots, with Nolles claiming gold and LaCount bronze. Nolles time of 19.51 is a school record, and LaCount touched at 19.88, both DII B times.
NMU ended the day with fireworks. In the final event of the day for both the men and women, the 200 free relay team of Lacount, Gabriel Fulconi, Daniel Khmara, and Nolles not only claimed gold, but posted the fastest time in the nation, a GLIAC record, meet record, pool record, and school record with their time of 1:17.76, breaking the GLIAC record that has stood since 2022.
Alessandro Rosatelli (1:47.97), Wyatt Dickman (1:48.19), Gabriel Fulconi (1:48.64), and Daniel Lopez-Aponte (1:50.55) all posted NCAA DII B cut times in the 200 IM.
The ‘Cats now look ahead to Thursday, featuring the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 3-meter diving, and 400 medley relay. Prelims start at 10 a.m. with the finals at 5:30 p.m., both of which can be streamed on FloSwimming.
