WELLS, Mich. (WZMQ) – Wednesday was the fifth day of Michigan’s early voting period for the general election. So far, local turnout has been strong.
As of Tuesday morning, the Michigan Department of State reports that nearly 20% of all active registered voters have already cast their ballots. At the beginning of the week, Marquette County reported higher-than-average numbers. Delta County is also seeing an increase in early voters.
According to Delta County Clerk Susanne DuBord, turnout is significantly higher than it was during the August primary. Between Saturday and Tuesday, nearly 800 residents visited the Wells Township Hall to get their votes in before Election Day.
This is DuBord’s first time running a Delta County election, following her appointment to the position of clerk and register of deeds in September. However, she is no stranger to the process, having served as chief deputy clerk for 17 years. She says everything is going smoothly so far, thanks in great part to the individuals working at the polls.
“I have a fantastic group of election inspectors,” DuBord said. “They’re very knowledgeable. I’ve had a couple of newer ones, but most of them—probably four out of six every day—have been veteran workers. It hasn’t been a lot of long lines, but it’s been a nice steady pace for them.”
The Wells Township Hall is located at 6436 N 8th Street in Wells. Early voting runs through Sunday, November 1, and the polls are open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
