BARK RIVER, Mich. (WZMQ) – This weekend, one of Delta County’s newest breweries is raising money to support those battling breast cancer.

To kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Church Brewery will host a Brews for Boobs fundraiser on Saturday, October 3, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“Last year, we had just opened in January,” said bartender Jodi Greenfield. “That October, I thought, ‘We should be doing something to help with breast cancer awareness.'”

The event will feature a bake sale, the Boppin’ Betty food truck, and a special Boob-Berry wine made just for the occasion. Evermore. Permanent Jewelry by Gabrielle will be on site with breast cancer awareness chains and charms, and The Church will be selling pink brewery t-shirts. There will also be 50/50 and bucket raffles, with prizes donated by community members and businesses.

“We didn’t want to ask people to make donations, but our community is wonderful,” Greenfield said. “People started contacting us to donate items. That, of course, warmed our hearts that we didn’t have to ask people. They just reached out.”

Proceeds from the event will go to the Delta County Cancer Alliance, which provides financial support and resources for local individuals facing a cancer diagnosis. For Greenfield and her sister Sarah Nault, who owns The Church Brewery, breast cancer is an issue close to their hearts.

“In May, our brother’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer,” said Greenfield. “After that, it became a push for us to somehow help support her. While this is not a benefit for her, this is our way of representing her and supporting her, along with all of the other women that are fighting. We have close friends that have battled and survived; we’ve had family members who battled and passed away. We just want to help in any way that we can for those that are going through the same thing that we have and are going through.”

The Church Brewery is located at 5133 I Road. Brews for Boobs attendees are encouraged to stay after the fundraiser for music by SINGE. For additional information on the event, click here.
