MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Hundreds laced up their shoes Saturday morning for a cause that has touched countless families across the country.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s brought out the community to Ellwood Mattson Lower Harbor Park, raising funds for care, support, and research through the Alzheimer’s Association. Participants carried colorful promise promise flowers representing their personal connection to the disease, blue for those living with Alzheimer’s, purple for those who have lost someone to the disease, and orange for supporters and caregivers.
Primary speaker and parent of event coordinator Rachel Woody, Mac Woody, speaks on his experience at the event. “I met a gentleman who lost his daughter in her 50’s to Alzheimer’s,” says Woody. “It’s such a terrible disease, and it’s sad, and we’re just so grateful that our daughter has taken this mission in her life to help reach people with this disease.”
All funds raised stay with the Alzheimer’s Association to support research and local families.
