ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Saturday, September 26, cities across Michigan will be observing Downtown Day.
Downtown Day highlights the roles downtowns play in their communities. Escanaba is gearing up for its third annual event.
“Downtowns are important,” said Escanaba DDA Director Craig Woerpel. “It’s small business. It is a gathering place for the community. It’s kind of the heart of what our town is all about.”
Escanaba’s Downtown Day will be a promotional event. The public is encouraged to support local shops and restaurants, check out the library and art galleries, enjoy a beverage in the social district, and stop by the Farmers Market, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon.
With the newly renovated Ludington Street fully reopened, Woerpel says Downtown Day is a great time to see the improved Downtown Escanaba.
“I saw situations where people from out of town didn’t even know our street was closed,” he said. “That’s how fast it went back to normal. The businesses are seeing a major uptick in traffic. People are excited that the street is open, and this is just an opportunity to get more people to come on down and see what it’s all about.”
