ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Hundreds came together Saturday morning to walk, and to heal.
The annual Marquette County Walk for Hope returned to the Al Quaal Recreation Area, bringing together community members to raise awareness about suicide prevention and support those impacted by loss.
The event featured speakers sharing personal experiences, traditional indigenous drumming, and community resources for mental health and suicide prevention, a reminder that no one has to face grief alone.
Marquette County Health Department Educator Sarah Derwin says the turnout shows something powerful about the community. “It’s a really meaningful event. It brings together so many different people from so many different backgrounds,” says Derwin. “It just shows you the impact that suicide has on the community, but it also shows hope, and the way we come together through hope.”
The Walk For Hope is held annually each September. Those struggling can reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 9-8-8.
