LANSING, Mich. (WZMQ) – People in the Upper Peninsula who are working to get their driver’s licenses back will have an opportunity to get help next week.
The Michigan Secretary of State and several state and community partners are holding free Road to Restoration clinics in Hancock on Sept. 22 and Iron Mountain on Sept. 23.
The clinics are designed to help eligible drivers understand what they need to do to restore their driving privileges.
Secretary of State staff will meet one-on-one with participants to review their license status and answer questions about the steps needed to legally get back on the road. Some Secretary of State services will also be available at the clinics, including vision testing and the written driver’s exam.
Hancock clinic
The Hancock clinic will be held Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hancock Community Hub, 417 Quincy St.
Walk-ins will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as space allows.
Iron Mountain clinic
The Iron Mountain clinic will take place Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central Time at the Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Program Center, 800 Crystal Lake Blvd., Suite 110.
Walk-ins will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as space allows.
People are encouraged to register ahead of time through the Michigan Secretary of State’s Road to Restoration program.
Participants should bring $16 to obtain a copy of their driving record, or print their driving record the day before the clinic and bring it with them.
If someone is eligible to have their license restored at the clinic, they should also bring the necessary documents, including:
- Identification
- Birth certificate
- Proof of residency
The clinics are being held with help from the Michigan Department of Attorney General, Michigan Works!, Michigan Association of United Ways, Detroit Justice Center, DTE Energy, Miller Canfield, Michigan 2-1-1, Hancock Community Hub, and Northern Lights YMCA.
Important: The clinics do not provide DUI/OWI expungement services, and attending a clinic does not guarantee that a driver’s license will be reinstated.
